PASSING OF THE TORCH
At the Passing of the Torch Celebration, we launched the Eco-School Network as a nonprofit organization while celebrating the legacy of Dick and Jeanne Roy – two of Portland’s prominent sustainability leaders who incubated the Eco-School Network.
THE ROY'S LEGACY
At Cannon Beach 25 years ago, Dick and Jeanne Roy had a compelling vision. They recognized that Northwest citizens can and must build a culture of sustainability. They made a remarkable commitment to work together as full-time, unpaid agents of change. Since then, they have founded and led nonprofits including Chess for Success, Northwest Earth Institute, Master Recycler Program, Oregon Natural Step Network, Center for Earth Leadership, and Portlanders for Outdoor School. Their work has touched the lives of thousands, shifting our culture toward sustainability.
