K-12 students, join the SPEAK OUT: Youth Earth Day Challenge!
Show your care for the earth through a poem or a short audio message and you will be entered in a drawing to win an outdoor adventure! The Eco-School Network will select one winner who will choose their pick between: a Canoe Rental on the Willamette for two, Goat Yoga for two, or mountain biking at the Lumberyard!
Teachers – you can download a flyer here. Teachers who complete the challenge with their class will win a $20 gift card to Powell’s Books. We have 6 remaining! Please contact Rachel Willis (rachel@ecoschoolnetwork.org) to claim one.

Oregon’s poet laureate, Kim Stafford, will weave lines of student poems together in a new work! The poem can be as short as one line and as long as one page. Your poem will be read to adult leaders – what would you like to tell them? Answer one or both of the questions below.
- What worries you about the future of our Earth? Start each stanza of your poem with: “I worry…”
- What is your hope for the future of our planet? What change do you invite grown ups to make with you? Start each stanza of your poem with: “Together, we can…”
Submit your poem by completing the Google form here.
Audio Option
- What do you love about the Earth? Describe a specific place in nature – what do you feel when you are there?
- If you could write a thank you note to the Earth, what would it say?
