Speaker: Bryan Lacy
Urban bee keeping is a growing trend here in Portland. Brian Lacy, expert bee keeper and teacher about bees and his group, Live Honeybees, has programs available for schools to help educate students, allow for safe and less fearful interaction, and develop a greater appreciation for everything our pollinator friends do for us. Bryan shared a wealth of information about the lives and habits of the different bees here in the Northwest. He was able to explain some of the causes of colony collapse, a major environmental concern. Bryan also teaches classes for kids on making beeswax candles and salves, and at West View High School the students made hives.
